Student Cantor Alexis
Konigsberg

Beth Jacob is pleased to welcome Alexis
Konigsberg as our Student Cantor for 2008-09. Alexis will serve as our Cantor
for the High Holidays and for six weekends throughout the school year. She
succeeds Cantor Rebecca Carl, who ably filled this position for two years and
received her ordination as Cantor on May 22.
Alexis hails from Palm
Beach, Florida and is a lifelong Conservative Jew. She received Bachelor's
Degrees from both Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in
2006 and expects to receive her cantorial ordination from JTS in 2010. She is
currently the treasurer of the Cantorial Students Association and a Bar/Bat
Mitzvah tutor at Congregation Shaaray Tefila in Manhattan. She was the High
Holiday Cantor at Congregation B'nai Zion in Chattanooga, Tenn. last year. This
summer, she will be doing a Clinical Pastoral Education course at Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York.

Because Alexis will be in fairly
close proximity this summer and Rosh Hashanah is at the end of September, we
would like to try and organize a small choir to perform a small number of pieces
during the High Holidays and throughout the year. If you are interested in being
part of this choir, please let Rabbi Arian or the synagogue office know. Alexis
is also interested in helping congregants learn or improve their Torah and
Haftarah skills, so again, if interested, please contact Rabbi
Arian.
